01Psychiatrist-led assessment
Every pathway begins with a consultant psychiatrist. They review your history, confirm whether TMS is suitable and safe for you, and set the treatment plan. Nothing is decided by a machine or a sales target.
Opening soon · Surrey Hills, Melbourne
Renova TMS is a new transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) clinic for depression in Melbourne’s inner east. Psychiatrist-led, measured throughout, and shared with your GP.
Our approach
A focused clinic built around one idea: treat the person in front of you, measure what you do, and keep learning.
Transcranial magnetic stimulation is an established, non-invasive treatment, most commonly used for depression that has not responded adequately to standard treatment. Whether it is suitable for any individual is always a clinical decision, made by a psychiatrist after a proper assessment.
General information only, not medical advice. Eligibility and rebates are confirmed at assessment.
Three things will define how Renova works, from the first assessment to the last follow-up.
Every pathway begins with a consultant psychiatrist. They review your history, confirm whether TMS is suitable and safe for you, and set the treatment plan. Nothing is decided by a machine or a sales target.
TMS uses focused magnetic pulses to stimulate a specific region of the brain involved in mood. Treatment parameters are set for each person and reassessed as treatment progresses, with imaging-guided personalisation added as the evidence allows.
Progress is tracked with validated clinical rating scales at fixed points, so decisions are guided by real response rather than assumption, and shared with you and your referring doctor.
General information only, not medical advice.
Targeted, not one size fits all
Our aim is to locate and stimulate the right region for each person, then adjust as treatment progresses. We will open with established, guideline-based targeting, and add imaging-guided personalisation as the evidence supports it.

The clinic
Renova sits at 629 Canterbury Road, alongside an established neurosurgical practice. The rooms were purpose-fitted for TMS and are being prepared to research standard, with quiet treatment spaces, a small reception and a patient liaison on site.
Your pathway
A clear, unhurried pathway with your psychiatrist and your GP involved throughout. This is how we intend to run it when we open.
Your GP or psychiatrist refers you, or you register your interest and we help arrange the referral.
A consultant psychiatrist reviews your history, discusses options and confirms whether TMS is suitable and safe for you.
Your protocol, target and schedule are set, with costs and any Medicare rebates explained before you begin.
Sessions on weekdays over several weeks, with trained staff and your psychiatrist overseeing the course.
Progress measured at fixed points, results shared with your referring doctor, and a plan for what comes next.
Details, eligibility and funding will be confirmed when we open. Medicare rebates for TMS apply only to people who meet specific criteria; your psychiatrist will explain whether they apply to you.
Our principles
Individualised targeting rather than one size fits all, with parameters set for each person and reassessed as treatment progresses.
Progress tracked with validated clinical rating scales, so decisions are guided by real response rather than assumption.
Collaborative care with each person’s general practitioner, referring psychiatrist and other treating clinicians.
Clear, honest guidance on suitability, eligibility, funding and risks, before any treatment is considered.
Research
We want Renova to keep learning, so research is part of the plan from day one. We’re talking with university researchers about hosting ethically approved clinical research at Surrey Hills, and we’ll share more here once arrangements are confirmed.
Research done properly. Any research at Renova will run with ethics committee approval and each person’s informed consent. Taking part will always be optional.
Join the founding team
We are assembling a small, capable founding team, and we would love to hear from clinicians who want to help shape a clinic from the start rather than join a finished one.
Consultant psychiatrists (FRANZCP), TMS technicians and nurses, psychologists, and clinician researchers with an interest in neurostimulation.
Psychologists, physiotherapists and neurologists looking for consulting rooms in Surrey Hills are welcome to get in touch.
For referring clinicians
We look forward to working with general practitioners, psychiatrists and allied health professionals across Melbourne. Our referral criteria and pathways will be published here when we open. In the meantime you are welcome to register your interest, and we will keep you informed.
Before we open, we’re asking local GPs what they would want from a TMS service. Our short survey helps us build referral pathways that work for you and your patients.
Take the GP survey
We’ll let you know when we open, and how to talk to your GP about a referral.
Renova isn’t open yet and can’t provide urgent care. If you or someone you know needs help now, please reach out to one of these services.
When you use the register your interest form we collect the details you provide, which are your name and email address, and your phone number and message if you choose to add them. We use them for one purpose only: to contact you about Renova TMS as the clinic takes shape.
Your details are sent directly to our clinic inbox and are not shared with any third party, and are not added to any marketing list without your separate agreement. Please do not include any personal health information in the form, as it is not the right place for it. If you would like us to remove your details, email us at [email protected] and we will delete them promptly.
